View from El Mina. Oil on Canvas (unframed), 18×72, By Duncan Campbell
View from El Mina
Duncan Campbell. Campbell grew up in an artistic household, his mother is a professional painter and his father is a photographer. Guided by his parents, he is a self-taught caricaturist, graphic designer and oil painter. View from Elmina reflects the actual view of the southern coast of Ghana from Elmina castle, a base for the slave trade in the 17th century. This painting represents the contrast of the freedom the horizon presents and the open sea and slavery of which those who had this view were bound.
