Isidore Jules Bonheur (1827-1901). Born in Bordeaux, France, Bonheur initially studied with his father, Raymond Bonheur, a drawing instructor & in 1849 he commenced study at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He created a number of animals paintings but realized his talents lay in sculpture. He sculpted a variety of animals with precise detail of the movements of animals in the natural habitats which reflected his commitment to realism.
